Description
The Scott Aerator Solar Powered DA-20 Display Aerator (4-Panel) provides attractive fountains and is environmentally friendly.
The Solar Powered DA-20 Display Aerator (4-Panel) combines clean, eco-friendly aeration with the visual appeal of a fountain. This makes it a good option for remote areas where electric power is difficult or costly to access.
This aerator can move up to 300 gallons of water per minute in a pleasing, adjustable pattern. The spray reaches about 5 feet high and spreads 9 to 20 feet wide. This water flow helps clear algae from the pond surface, keeps water clear, discourages insects, and adds oxygen to the pond. More oxygen benefits fish and speeds up the breakdown of organic material at the pond bottom, reducing muck over time.
Featuring a durable, oil-free stainless steel submersible motor, this aerator is built to last, needs no upkeep, and is the most environmentally conscious choice available.
Designed for use during the day, the unit uses solar energy, runs at different speeds, and turns off automatically at night. Its solar PV array panels gradually increase water flow as sunlight changes, removing the need for expensive batteries often required by solar aerators.
Like all products from Scott Aerator Company, the DA-20 Solar Aerator is designed to avoid costly winter preparation. Simply leave the aerator in the water, turn off the power, and it will be ready when the water thaws in spring. All parts are made to withstand freezing temperatures without damage.
This system includes the DA-20 Display Aerator, four solar panels with a frame, a disconnect box, a Fhoton™ drive solar inverter, and all necessary wiring. You will need to supply a vertical pole for the panels and frame, a concrete base for the pole, and two anchor ropes with weights or tethers for the aerator.
Proudly made in the USA, the DA-20 Solar Aerator includes a 5-year unconditional motor warranty and comes with 70 feet of heavy-duty, 12-gauge submersible power cord. Longer lengths are available up to 150 feet.
This unit works in both fresh and saltwater.
Please disconnect the power source when swimmers are in the water.
Installation
1. Assemble The Unit
Putting together Scott Aerator Fountains takes about 15-20 minutes. Instructions come with your fountain. The fountain kits include:
- Pump with cylindrical casing and attached power cable
- Square float platform
- Protective stainless steel filter
- Decorative nozzle (not applicable to the DA-20)
- 5/16"x2" stainless steel bolts
- Stainless steel nuts & washers
- Self-tapping stainless steel screws
Tools Needed: A wrench (or socket driver) and pliers.

Assembly Steps:
- Place the fountain housing on a stable surface with the pump discharge facing up.
- Attach nylon rope (not included) to the two stainless steel eyebolts for anchoring the fountain.
- Position the float and secure it with the included 5/16" x 2" bolts, washers, and nuts.
- Turn the fountain over, remove the Styrofoam doughnut, and install the stainless steel filter. Line up the pre-drilled holes with the filter's position marks. Secure the filter with the three self-tapping screws provided.
2. Attach Lights (Skip if you did not order lights)
Scott Aerator fountain light kits easily attach to the square float platform. The light kits include:
- (2) or (4) LED light fixtures with power cable
- 1/2" bolts & nuts
- (2) or (4) stainless steel arm brackets
- Timer/control unit
- Remote control (only for color-changing lights)
Tools Needed: Wrench & Pliers
*Note: The included timer/control unit is needed to run the lights. Do not disconnect the cord from the control unit, as this will void the lights' warranty.

Assembly Steps:
- Attach each arm assembly to the water feature, making sure the arms are oriented with “L” facing upward. Remove one of the 2" bolts holding the float to your Scott water feature and line up the holes with the stainless steel arm. Reinsert the bolt with washer through the housing, float, and stainless steel arm. Secure with washer and nut. Repeat for the other arm assemblies.
- Attach each light to the slotted end of the stainless steel arms. Insert a 1/2" x 1/4" bolt downward through each light bracket and steel arm, then secure with a 1/4" nut. The lights can be adjusted along the arm by loosening the lock nut, moving the light to the desired spot, and re-tightening the nut.
- Connect the lights to the Timer Control Unit by lining up the pins and screwing the connector together a half turn only. Do not force the connection to avoid damaging the O-ring or wiring.
3. Place in water
- After assembly, the unit is ready to be placed in the water for final adjustments and anchoring.
- Handle the fountain with care; do not rest its weight on the stainless steel filter.
- Once the fountain head is underwater, secure it by screwing it into place (not applicable to the DA-20).
- Float the fountain to the desired spot and secure the attached nylon ropes to the shore or use two concrete blocks submerged at least 20 feet apart.
- Finally, plug in your fountain and lights to the power source. Always use a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) and consult a licensed electrician for power source setup.
Buying Guide
Choosing Horsepower
- Horsepower affects the size and flow rate of your fountain's spray. More horsepower means more water movement and a larger or thicker spray.
- Selecting horsepower depends on your budget and pond size. A good rule is to have at least 10 feet between the fountain spray and the pond's edge.
Choosing Voltage
- When in doubt: Contact us.
- If using 115V power, be aware of the maximum distances from pump to breaker (including the power cord length).
- For 230V, distance is generally not a concern.

Choosing LED Lights (Optional)
- Can be bought now or added later. Light sets easily attach to the float.
- Lights run on 110V and come with their own power cord.
- Options include single-color warm white LED lights or color-changing LED lights.
- Both options include a programmable timer, and the color-changing lights come with a remote control that works up to 1,000 feet away.
- 2-light sets are suggested for 1 HP and below.
- 3-light sets are suggested for 1.5 HP and 2 HP.
- 4-light sets are suggested for 3 HP.
Choosing Timers (Optional)
- Can be bought now or added later.
- Timers are made only for controlling fountains, not lights.
- FAQ: The difference between the residential and commercial 230V timer is that the residential box is plastic while the commercial box is metal. Both do the same job.
Additional Nozzles (Optional)
- Can't decide on a fountain? Scott Aerator fountain pumps work with all Scott Aerator nozzles.
- Choose from 9 different nozzles for various spray patterns!
- Note: Not all nozzles are available for every motor size. Make sure you choose nozzles that match the correct horsepower.

FAQ
Fountains
Q: How do I choose the right fountain?
A: This is a common question. First, decide if you need aeration, looks, or both. If aeration is key, consider our Aerating Fountains, which move more water than aesthetic fountains. For looks, there are many choices. Make sure your pond is deep enough and the spray won't go over the edges. Each fountain product page shows display sizes.
Note: Fountains can only aerate water up to about 6 feet deep.
Q: What horsepower should I choose for my fountain?
A: Horsepower shows the motor size, which affects the spray pattern size. Make sure your pond is deep enough and the spray won't overflow, no matter the horsepower. Our fountains work best for ponds a quarter acre or larger, depending on shape. Think about your budget and the size you want when picking horsepower.
Q: Should I hire someone to install my fountain?
A: A licensed electrician should set up the power source if one isn't there already. Our fountains are fairly easy to install once the power source is ready. Many customers install their own fountains to save money, but consider what resources you have.
Q: Which is better for me: 110-120V or 210-240V?
A: 210-240 volts is usually better if the power source is over 70 feet from the main breaker. Make sure your power source can handle the higher voltage to provide enough power for continuous use. Choosing the lower voltage might mean it runs on and off or doesn't run at full power if the pond is too far from the main breaker. Contact us with any questions.
Q: Are lights included in the price?
A: No, lights are not included by default. You can order them with your fountain or later. Attaching them to the floating unit is simple and a good investment.
Q: What factors determine the price of the power cord?
A: Material costs are a big factor. Different power cords are available for fountains, from 14-gauge copper or stainless steel wire to 4-gauge copper or stainless steel wire, depending on fountain size and cord length.
Q: Can I leave my fountain in the water during winter?
A: Scott Aerator Fountains can stay in the water all winter. You can either run them constantly or turn them off completely. Once the ice melts, they can be turned back on.
Aerators
Q: Can aeration improve my fish's health and clean my pond?
A: Yes. Aeration is the first step to clearing a pond.
Q: How do I choose the right aerator?
A: The size and depth of your pond will help you choose. Our website sorts products by pond size (in acres). Surface Aerators and Aerating Fountains work for ponds under six feet deep, while Sub-Surface aerators are suggested for deeper ponds.
Q: How do I install my aerator?
A: Consult a licensed electrician if a power source hasn't been set up by the pond. Our aerators are designed for easy installation once the power source is ready. Many customers install the equipment themselves to save money, but consider your resources.
Q: How should I set up the aeration?
A: A good setup includes a surface aerator or aerating fountain along with a Sub-Surface aerator to move oxygen released from the pond's bottom.
